Commands

Command too long for chat? Here is how with a command block
  1. Chat only allows 256 characters. Longer commands are cut off when pasted and fail.
  2. Get a command block (Creative mode, cheats on): /give @s command_block
  3. Place it, open it with a right click, paste the copied command and click “Done”.
  4. Power it with a button or lever. For /setblock, ~ ~ ~ then counts from the command block.

How a spawner works

  • It is only active while a player is closer than the set range (16 blocks by default, measured from the block centre). With −1 any player in the same dimension is enough – the chunk still has to be loaded.
  • When the pause is over, it tries as many mobs as “Mobs per round” says. Each try lands randomly up to “Spawn spread” blocks away – more often near the middle – and from one layer below to one above the spawner.
  • A try only works if the mob has room there and its spawn rules are met, e.g. darkness for monsters or grass and light for animals. If “Max. mobs nearby” of the same type already stand in the counting area, the round is skipped.
  • If at least one try works, it rolls the next pause between min. and max. If none works, it tries again on the very next tick.
  • Important: once the mob has more than its ID (name, no AI, …), the game skips the normal spawn equipment – skeletons would have no bow, zombies no armour, no babies. That is what “Give the default weapon” is for.
