YOUR TEXTURE EDITOR
Pick an item or block, paint pixel by pixel on the original texture from Minecraft 26.3 and see it in 3D right away. When you are done, download your own resource pack for 1.8.9 to 26.x.

Alpha version: the Texture Editor is new and still being improved. If something does not work, report the bug.
Preview
There is no 3D view for this object – the 2D preview below shows your texture.
Drag to turn, mouse wheel to zoom.
Tiled
This is how a surface of many blocks looks – good for checking the edges.
Real size
Recolour the whole texture
The sliders work on every pixel of the current texture – turning oak into pink wood, for example. “Apply” puts it into the history so it can be undone.

How to get your pack into the game
- Download the pack and put the .zip as it is into the
resourcepacksfolder of your Minecraft installation (in game: Options → Resource Packs → Open Pack Folder). - Turn it on by moving it to the right in the list. If it says “Made for a newer/older version”, you picked a different version than the one you play.
- Every texture you edited goes into the same pack – so you can paint the sword first, then the pickaxe and then blocks.
- Mobs are painted in the separate Mob Editor – with the real Java model of every mob.
- Animated textures such as prismarine or fire are several pictures stacked on top of each other. Pick the picture you want to edit below the editor – the animation itself stays as in the game.
Textures, models and tints come from Minecraft 26.3. For older versions the editor writes every texture under the name it had there (e.g. blocks/planks_oak in 1.12). Textures that did not exist yet or had another size or shape are left out, and you are told. The pack format (pack.mcmeta) was checked for every version with the 26.3 code.
