How it works
- Game rules apply to the whole world and are saved with it. Changing them needs operator rights or a world with cheats.
/gamerule <rule>without a value shows the current value.- Since 1.21.11 every rule has a new name, e.g.
keep_inventoryinstead ofkeepInventory. Three rules flipped their meaning on the way:disableRaidsbecameraids, and the same goes for the two movement checks. Pick another version and the generator converts your settings automatically. - One by one: copy a command, open the chat in game (T), paste it and press Enter.
- Straight into the world (from 26.1): since 26.1 Minecraft saves the rules in
<world>/data/minecraft/game_rules.dat. game_rules.dat downloads that file – close the world and replace the old file with it. Note: afterwards every rule is set the way it is here – including the ones you changed in game before. - All at once: Data pack (.zip) gives you a ready-made data pack. Put the .zip into the
datapacksfolder of your world (.minecraft/saves/<world>/datapacks) and start the world or type/reload– the rules are then set automatically, again every time the world loads. To change them later, take the .zip out again. Data packs exist from 1.13. - Up to 1.12
/gameruleaccepts any text – a typo silently creates a new rule that does nothing. From 1.13 Minecraft reports an error.
Rules, default values and limits are read from the code of every version from 1.8 to 26.3; the in-game names and descriptions come from the official language files. The commands are tested on real servers (1.9.4, 1.12.2, 1.20.6, 1.21.11 and 26.3).
