Alpha V 0.1.0

YOUR PAINTING GENERATOR

Turn any picture into a real Minecraft painting – from 1×1 to 16×16 blocks, with title and author, without any mods. You get a ready pack (data pack and resource pack in one) for 1.21 to 26.x plus the /give command. For older versions from 1.8.9 on you simply replace an existing painting.

Details

When you hang a painting, Minecraft picks one that fits – with this tick yours too.

Commands

Does the game say “Failed to get element … from registry”? Then the data pack is not loaded yet: leave the world and join again – /reload does not load new paintings.

Your pack

How the painting gets into the game

  • Download the pack. It is a data pack and a resource pack in one – you need it twice.
  • Data pack: put the .zip into your world's datapacks folder (when creating the world: “Data Packs”, or later in saves/<world>/datapacks) and leave the world once and join it again (“Save and Quit to Title”, on a server: restart it). /reload is not enough: Minecraft reads paintings only when the world loads – otherwise /give says “Failed to get element … from registry”.
  • Replaced a painting? Then you only need the resource pack – no data pack and no command. Every painting of that kind shows your picture.
  • Resource pack: put the same .zip into resourcepacks and turn it on under Options → Resource Packs. Without it you only see a purple and black picture.
  • Into the inventory: with the /give command above. With “Also at random when hanging” your painting can also show up when you hang a normal painting – if the wall has enough room.
  • On a server the data pack goes into the server's world folder; send the resource pack as server resource pack or let every player turn it on.

Structure and fields (asset_id, width and height 1–16, title, author, the placeable tag, the item component painting/variant) come from the code of Minecraft 26.3; the pack formats from each version's game files. Custom paintings exist since 1.21. For 1.8.9 to 1.20 the generator replaces an existing painting – up to 1.13 all paintings share one picture, the places are checked against the game files.
